Stereotypically, private helicopters are only for the extremely wealthy and the famous; who are usually extremely wealthy anyways. While that may have been true several decades ago, helicopters are being used privately more and more these days by the wealthy and the not so wealthy alike because it is becoming more affordable. A lot of average citizens are even choosing to purchase their very own private helicopters. Depending on what locations in which you will need a private helicopter will depend on which charter company will be used as some companies cater more to the likes of certain areas. The next thing that needs to be known will work in conjunction with price; it is the type of private helicopter being hired. Some companies may only offer one type of helicopter, but you should be prepared by knowing all of the common types which are light piston engine, light turbine and twin engine helicopters. Light piston engine helicopters usually travel at slower speeds and can typically seat only two to three passengers; they are usually the cheaper of the different types. Light turbine helicopters are mainly used for business purposes because they travel at significantly quick speeds so that you can arrive at your destination with time to spare. Twin engine helicopters are the faster of the previously mentioned two and can travel to places where other helicopters simply cannot; twin engine helicopters do however run a higher price tag.

The two things listed above are probably the two most important aspects to consider before hiring a private helicopter. Simply searching the pilot’s name in a popular search engine would not hurt to see if who you are working with is exceptional. Typically however, the charter companies run background checks and make sure that their pilots fit all the necessary criteria before allowing them to pilot chartered helicopters.
