Helicopters have come a long way since they were first invented several decades ago. At first helicopters were manufactured with military purpose in mind, but as the years progressed, more and more helicopter engineers began manufacturing private helicopters. A private helicopter is merely a helicopter built with civilian use in mind. The dream of most of these private helicopter pioneers was so that every family could have their very own private helicopter parked in their backyards, but even to this day, private helicopters are not cheap enough so that just anybody can own one.

However, there are many individuals out there who can afford to purchase their own private helicopters and since your reading this, you may be one of them. The first step in buying a helicopter is figuring out whether or not it would be a reasonable expense. Buying a helicopter is not only going to be pretty expensive, but the cost to own, fuel and maintain one is also going to run the budget significantly. So take some time to sit down and actually think about if a private helicopter would actually be a feasible purchase. Sometimes simply chartering a private helicopter is a better decision than actually buying one, merely because you may not fly that often.

If you have thought about it and have made the decision that you want to buy a private helicopter of your own, then quite a bit of research needs to be done first. You first need to come up with a budget that you will be working with as there are the cheapest helicopters out there and there are the most expensive helicopters. The Robinson R22 is probably the cheapest commercially made private helicopter available on the market, weighing in with a price tag of a little over £97,000. You can go even cheaper by buying helicopter kits in which you build the helicopter yourself. If you have a wealthier budget then there are nicer helicopters that can be anywhere between £100,000 to £650,000 and more.

Determining the budget is the first step, but now you need to look at the details of each helicopter and figure out which one best suit your needs. There are private helicopters that offer the bare minimum when it comes to comfort, speed, seating and so on; these helicopters will probably be a bit cheaper but if you do not need a lot then that is something to consider. You should also see how much it is going to cost to fuel each specific helicopter as well as maintain it. Once all of the necessary research is done, then an informed decision as to which private helicopter is the best can be made and then hopefully the purchase can be made smoothly. Then you will be the proud owner of your very own private helicopter; hopefully it lives up to what you had hoped.
